About two hours South of France is a quaint little town called Annecy – an alpine city that seem to perfectly came out of the pages of a fairy tale book. It’s vibrant, clean, unique and irrefutably scenic everywhere. Usually dubbed as the Venice of the Alps, its winding canals and pretty lined houses make for a really fascinating village atmosphere.
I’ve been dreaming about Annecy since our visit last fall. I have intentionally included this town to be the last leg of our Europe trip to experience some quiet stroll after all the busy city walks in Paris, Brugge, and Amsterdam. And oh, what a glorious end! Like a dream, I woke up in a place where I’m just five minutes’ walk away from the amazing peak of the mountain Alps. It’s a tiny piece of paradise. And by paradise, here is what I meant. ;)
Before I get carried away from my daydreaming (I wish I am back there!), here are more photos for you to enjoy. There is no need for complicated itinerary. The town is easily walkable and you’d probably love to get lost around anyway.
The village of Annecy is charming enough but here in the lake is where the action happens. Locals and tourists enjoy a day of cycling, swimming, kayaking, boating, cruising to nearby towns, or just soaking up in fresh cool air and warm sunshine. There are no big tour groups or buses, only families and friends spending their free time outdoors.
Lake Annecy is the third largest lake in France and dubbed as “Europe’s cleanest lake”. It was formed when the Alpine glaciers melted during the last ice age. Now, it is being streamed by small rivers surrounding the mountains.
Ahh, I could imagine myself living here, off to work but in no rush, absorbing every inch of beauty around me and taking my time to stroll and enjoy the atmosphere. The days are bright, people are always smiling, time slows down and the town naturally echoes positivity. I wonder if people ever get stressed here. :)
It’s amazing what nature does to your soul.
If you’re on for a visit to Paris or into nearby Lyon or Geneva, take advantage of the convenient train travel and add Annecy on your list. It’s worth the side trip. ❤
Where have you been dreaming about lately?
