Victory Weekend – I am victorious!

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” {John 8:36}

Victory Weekend is a two-day retreat organized by Every Nation Church. It is designed to help people establish a biblical, spiritual foundation that is necessary for a lifelong walk with God.

The first day presents teachings about the power that Christ purchased on the cross for our salvation and how those who walk with Him can attain victory and freedom in their lives. The second day is more personal, it’s when you and your prayer partner, work together to identify things that may hinder your faith growth and personal relationship with God. See, even Christians may still have struggles in their lives that they need to be freed from.

I like this example told to us – when a waterproof watch is submerged in the water, it doesn’t mean that it will not get wet. It will, but since it is waterproof, it will not destroy the watch. Similarly, Christianity does not promise a storm-free life. Every one of us fights our own battles. But God promises us that if we follow His Word, the battles and storms we face will not destroy us. We will weather the obstacles.

My Victory Weekend experience was life-changing. It was at this time when God revealed me the burdens I need to let go, the people I need to forgive and my sins that need repentance. I realized that we all need to make peace with our past so we can freely move forward without anything holding us back.

I cried. It’s been a while since I cried that much again. It was painful to recall all the past and present mistakes I’ve done in my life but it was also liberating to know that I was already forgiven, that I am infinitely loved by Him and that there’s nothing that can separate me from that love. I felt my heart burning with God’s overwhelming grace. It is the kindness of God that leads us to repentance.

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” {1 Corinthians 10:13}

Whatever will happen to me, I know that I have a God who will guide me throughout this journey. It begins and ends with Him. I am victorious! :)
