On our second day, we decided to have our lunch at Tavajun Bay — Gaya Island Resort’s secluded, private beach just 5 minutes away by boat. It is free to visit and the resort offers hourly speedboat transfers, easy peasy!
I was mesmerized when I saw the turquoise blue waters glistening under the summer sun as we approached the bay. It reminded me of our time in Coron, the comfort and tranquility that it brings, and the way the sight of the ocean instantly clears up the mind. Now I know why nations are fighting over this piece of paradise. Sabah, Borneo is more than just beautiful.
We pre-ordered a personalized meal for lunch which came in a big picnic basket! Awww, our simple lunch became a romantic picnic experience by the beach, which the friendly resort staff set-up and prepared for us. We’re totally pampered!
From the rainforest, a boar came out and strolled around the beach area. It was a very rare sight to see a wild boar up close. It seemed unfriendly but it wasn’t scary at all. We’re all amused watching it from afar.
Tavajun Bay doesn’t have any fancy or modern facilities but it’s charming on its own. There is no internet too so it’s a perfect time to lose sight of the online world and just enjoy the moment. It feels good to lie down and watch the peaceful ocean, sleep and rest under the shade of the trees, watch parents catch up with a good book, children play and couples gaze at each other. Ge and I enjoyed our small talks about our dreams, our never-ending plans about life, our travels and our future kids with occasional rants about work. Hee! I am grateful to have married my best friend, someone who listens to me thinking out loud. :)
